Tendinitis, also spelled Tendonitis, is a common musculoskeletal condition characterized by inflammation, irritation, or degeneration of a tendon. Tendons are strong connective tissues that transmit the force generated by muscles to bones, allowing movement of joints and body parts.
Tendinitis usually develops due to repetitive stress, overuse, sudden increases in activity, poor biomechanics, sports injuries, or age-related changes in tendon structure. Repeated microtrauma to the tendon can lead to pain, swelling, and impaired function.
Although the term "tendinitis" implies inflammation, many chronic tendon conditions involve tendon degeneration, known as tendinopathy or tendinosis, where the tendon structure becomes weakened over time. Early diagnosis and proper rehabilitation are crucial to prevent chronic symptoms and tendon rupture.
Tendinitis can affect any tendon in the body, but commonly involved areas include:
At Magnum Physiotherapy, our treatment approach focuses on reducing pain, improving tendon healing, correcting biomechanical faults, and restoring strength and function for long-term recovery.
Inflammation of the rotator cuff tendons causing shoulder pain and limited movement.
Pain on the outer side of the elbow due to repetitive wrist and forearm movements.
Pain on the inner side of the elbow caused by overuse of forearm muscles.
Pain in the tendon below the kneecap, common in jumping sports.
Pain and stiffness in the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle.
Inflammation of the tendons around the thumb and wrist.
At Magnum Physiotherapy, we conduct a thorough assessment to identify the affected tendon and contributing factors.
The evaluation may include:
